Hospice Is More About Living

When people hear the word “hospice” they think of a service that helps someone who is dying. While hospice care is for people who have been given a physician prognosis of six months or less to live, Sunset Senior Communities partner Emmanuel Hospice is “More About Living.” They center their care around a patient and the patient’s family, focusing on how the patient wants to live out their final months, weeks, and days with their loved ones. The hospice care team supports the patient and the family, and the support continues well after their loved one has died.

A Continuum of Care

Sunset provides compassionate senior care for every stage of life. Our Life Plan model focuses on a continuum of care that is adaptable to each resident’s need and ensures a quality of life that nurtures the physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being of each person. Hospice care is one of the services offered in that continuum. Sunset has partnered with Emmanuel Hospice to provide high quality hospice services to any resident when they need it.

Emmanuel Hospice is a faith-based nonprofit that focuses on providing compassionate care and support so a person can focus on living and cherishing moments with loved ones. They come alongside a person and their family to provide high quality care through an interdisciplinary team that works with the family to create a custom holistic plan to meet all of their needs. This enables the patient and family to focus on living and spending time with each other knowing their loved one is receiving the care they need.

“Emmanuel Hospice was there for us and our loved one. They gave us comfort and peace of mind. My children and I were just amazed at the quality of care provided to my husband.”

Hospice Services

As a faith-based hospice, Emmanuel Hospice’s services encompass the mind, body, and spirit. Their goal is to enhance each patient’s life with a combination of expert medical care, spiritual counseling, and a variety of complementary therapies. They provide:

When to Call Hospice

Hospice can be hard to talk about, but the sooner the conversation is started, the sooner you or your loved one can receive the care you need and focus on living life to the fullest. You don’t need a doctor to make a hospice referral, anyone can do it. And, anyone can call Emmanuel Hospice at any time to ask questions and begin exploring and understanding the unique set of care and services they provide.

Emmanuel Hospice’s service area includes all of Kent and Ottawa Counties as well as parts of six other counties in West Michigan. All of Sunset’s communities are included in Emmanuel’s service area.
